University of Hawaii junior swimmer Phoebe Hines dominated with three victories, but both the men’s and women’s teams fell short to Wisconsin on Friday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
The men fell 134-109 and the women lost 146-97.
Hines claimed victories in the 1,000 freestyle, 500 freestyle, and 200 freestyle. On the men’s side, Metin Aydin earned a pair of victories — the 100 backstroke and the 400 individual medley.
Also winning events were Talon Lindquist, who won the men’s 500 freestyle event, and sophomore Kinna Clayton, who was victorious in the women’s 100 breaststroke.
Hawaii men’s divers claim top spots
Junior Lucas Cooperman claimed first place in the platform dive with a score of 316.4, allowing the Rainbow Warriors men’s diving team to sweep first-place finishes in the Wally Nakamoto Diving Invite at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Center on Saturday.
Johan Sandell took first place on Thursday in the 3-meter dive, and Max Berman was first in the 1-meter on Friday. Sandell placed second behind Cooperman on Saturday with a 302.40.
On the women’s side, the Rainbow Wahine were shut out of the winner’s podium. Sophomore Ivy Houser finished at No. 5 to lead the way with a score of 196.95.
Chaminade snaps 2-game losing streak
Grant Dressler had a career-high 24 points, knocking down six 3-pointers, helping No. 12 Chaminade earn an 84-54 win over Dominican in San Rafael, Calif., on Saturday.
The win ends a two-game skid for the Silverswords (11-2, 5-2 PacWest). Erik Schieve added 21 points and seven rebounds for Chaminade.
The Penguins (6-8, 2-6 PacWest) were led by Jordan Williams’ 15 points.
Chaminade women fall to Dominican
Despite a 20-point effort from Destiny Castro, the Chaminade women’s basketball team fell 77-65 to Dominican in San Rafael, Calif., on Saturday.
Castro outplayed prolific Dominican scorer Natalie Diaz, who entered the game leading the country in scoring with 30.5 points. Diaz was held to 14 points, a season-low.
In her absence, Alana Scott and Marisa Mondave stepped up for Dominican (10-2, 7-1 PacWest). Scott scored 27 points, and Mondave added 18, as the Penguins knocked down 14 3-pointers.
The loss dropped the Silverswords to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in the PacWest.
