The city’s new supermarket-based kiosks for motor vehicle registration promise some major improvements.

They’re available 24 hours a day. They will print your document and decal on the spot. You can use them to renew late registrations. And if you go to one of the four Safeway supermarkets where they are located — Kapahulu, Beretania, Waimalu and Kaneohe — you can pick up groceries at the same time.

Let’s just hope the line at the kiosk doesn’t become as long as the one at the satellite city hall.

Argosy students get a welcome heads-up

Not to diminish the angst being felt by Argosy University students at news that their school’s owner was put in receivership — but at least they got some warning. When Heald College closed its 28 campuses (including Hawaii’s) in 2015 … not so much.

The head’s up gives students a better chance at collecting their records and transcripts, while staff are still at work. The Hawaii Post-secondary Education Authorization Program documented reports of layoffs, so that capacity might diminish quickly. So step on it — see 808ne.ws/argosystatus. The state processed the Heald requests, but for a $10 fee.
