Local families can spend Sunday learning about or rediscovering Iolani Palace and Hawaii’s monarchs at Iolani Palace Kamaaina Sunday, a monthly event where admission is free for kamaaina. Guests can choose from a guided tour or self-led audio tour of the palace.
“Docent-led and audio tours bring Hawaiian history to life, as do the new objects that have been added in recent years, including specially made kahili and reproductions of gowns worn by Queen Kapiolani and Queen Lili‘uokalani,” said Cindy Ascencio, director of guest services at the palace.
The tours allow visitors to visit the private quarters of the monarchs, Ascencio said.
“We also invite guests to roam and picnic on the palace grounds,” she said.
