Crews repair water main breaks in Kapahulu area and Aikahi

Board of Water Supply crews are busy this morning repairing three water main breaks overnight in Aikahi and near Kapahulu.

Police closed Aikahi Loop at Mokapu Road at about 5 a.m. after a 12-inch water main break this morning. Access to Mokapu Road is through the Safeway parking lot or Ilihau Street. The main was originally installed in 1960.

Crews are working on two water main breaks in the Kapahulu area.

Water service was restored to customers on Monsarrat Avenue between Campbell and Kanaina avenues by 7 a.m. But the makai-bound lane of Monsarrat remained closed this morning as crews repair the road.

The six-inch main, installed in 1928, was reported at 5:15 p.m. Friday. The road is expected to reopen this afternoon.

Motorists are also asked to avoid Waialae Avenue between Kapahulu and 1st avenues as crews repair a leak on an 8-inch main.

One of two Koko Head-bound lanes is closed as crews repair the leak, which was reported at about 10:30 p.m.

About 30 customers, including a low-rise apartment building are without water today.

A water wagon has been set up at 1111 1st Avenue for these customers.

The main was originally installed in 1931.
