Andrea Fiegle, 36, of Haleiwa has been charged with felony animal cruelty after she admitted her pet dog died while she was trying to discipline the animal.

The 36-year-old Haleiwa woman, who admitted that her pet dog died while she was trying to discipline the animal, has been charged with animal cruelty.

Andrea Fiegle turned herself in to police Sunday after she allegedly killed her pet dog for misbehaving. She is charged with a class C felony crime, which carries a maximum 5-year jail term and $10,000 fine.

Police said the suspect told them she was upset with the dog’s behavior and was trying to discipline the animal when it died. The incident occurred at the suspect’s Paalaa Road home Sunday. After she surrendered to police, she was arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals.

Hawaiian Humane Society Community Relations Director Jacque Leblanc said her agency performed a necropsy on the animal, but would not say what was used to discipline it and how the dog died.
