  • 20001018-CTY-KAUAI-02

Police have identified the man’s body found in Kalalau Valley Thursday as 31-year-old Daniel Foster of Frisco, Texas.

An autopsy reveals that Foster died of injuries consistent with a fall from a height.  Foul play was not a factor, Kauai officials said.

Foster and a friend were camping near Kalalau Beach when they set out to hike into the valley.

Foster’s friend, a visitor from Kirkland, Wash., said the terrain became very dangerous and he turned back, but Foster continued hiking and had not returned to the beach on Thursday morning.

Rescue crews conducted an aerial search and found Foster’s body deep in the valley around 1:30 p.m.
