Honolulu police investigate the death of man found in the back of a dump truck on the H-1 freeway near the Fort Shafter offramp.

Police reopened Ewa-bound lanes of the H-1 freeway, the Fort Shafter onramp and the Likelike Freeway onramp after completing an initial investigation into the death of a man found in the back of a dump truck.

The man, believed to be 30 years old, was found in the back of a dump truck at about 12:30 p.m. near the Fort Shafter offramp, an Emergency Medical Services report said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokeswoman said the incident is being investigated as an unattended death.

She said the man was seen on the Gulick Street overpass before his body was found in the truck.

Police reopened the lanes by about 3 p.m.

Traffic camera images showed police and firefighters on scene and a truck in the median near the H-1 freeway and Middle Street.

Ewa-bound traffic backed up past School Street, into downtown, on the H-1 freeway.

If they found the body in the dump truck, can’t they move off the freeway to investigate?

I wonder how they found out or new the body was in the back of the truck–especially on the freeway?

That was what I was thinking–why would the driver stop abruptly on a freeway offramp to check the contents of the truck’s dump bed?

The driver saw the jumper before he jumped, something of that weight falling and hitting your vehicle you will definitely know that, that person had jumped. The truck drive is actually lucky the jumper had bad timing and did not jump onto the hood of the truck, at the speed the truck was traveling would drive the corps right into the truck’s cab and possibly injure or even kill the driver. Personally I think the jumper knew he wanted to end his demon’s and did not want to hurt anyone else so he waited and picked it’s target so to say, so no one else got hurt, after all his intention was to die and not injure someone in the process. God bless his soul.

Sounds more like “suicide” instead of “unattended death”.

Wonder if he had ID on him?, I guess they guessed his age by looks? Nationality?, you know,White, Black,Polynesian,Asian?

Put up fences on pedestrian overpasses and you won’t get “jumpers.” On H1 years ago, had Bingham overpass, Pali Hwy. overpass. I think had a guy trying to jump from overpass going up to Aiea HS. Baby was thrown off by Ward overpass. Gulick overpass the same place recently where the guy suspected of murder tried to jump before police pulled him back. Take the temptation away, they can’t do it.
