Lifeguard tryouts to be held Friday and Saturday at Ala Moana Beach Park

Honolulu Ocean Safety is holding lifeguard recruit tryouts Friday and Saturday at Ala Moana Beach Park.

Interested recruits should meet behind lifeguard tower 1B at Ala Moana Beach Park. Tryouts begin promptly at 8 a.m.

Applicants must have a current driver’s license, a high school diploma, General Educational Development or proof of completion of high school, proof of previous completion of an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Class, basic First Aid Class, CPR for the Professional Rescuer Class or American Heart Association Basic Life Safety Healthcare Provider Class.

The physical exam consists of a 1,000-yard run and 1,000-yard swim under 25 minutes, 400-yard rescue board paddle under four minutes and run-swim-run combination (100 yards each) under three minutes.

The city is hiring lifeguards as part-time and contract employees.
