The Honolulu Police Department is officially in the fray, taking on the #LipSyncChallenge.

HPD officers — some burly, some veteran and even one with graceful hula hands — have posted their official video “Serving and Protecting with ALOHA.”

The video is more than six minutes of HPD officers, including Chief Susan Ballard, spreading a little aloha in scenes from around the island, including Waikiki and Chinatown. While it begins with a recreation of the opening to “Hawaii Five-O,” it quickly moves to officers lip syncing to the Manao Company’s “Spread A Little Aloha.”

According to the Website PoliceOne.com, which has ranked some of the best from departments around the country, Lip Sinc Challenge videos went viral beginning this summer. The challenge kicked off in mid-June when Deputy Alexander Mena of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office in Texas posted a video to Facebook of himself lip-syncing to “Fuiste Mala” by the Kumbia Kings. Since then, hundreds of agencies have answered the challenge with increasingly impressive and elaborate entries, according to PoliceOne.com.

The Honolulu Police Department is now bringing some aloha to the challenge, complete with fire-dancing and break-dancing.
