The state Department of Health reported today that testing found elevated levels of bacteria at Keehi Lagoon due to large amounts of storm debris and cleanup activities have stirred up bacteria.
A brown water advisory remains in effect for Keehi Lagoon. Health Department crews will take more samples next week Monday through Wedneday.
The DOH’s Clean Water Branch reported today that it found elevated levels of enterococci and Clostridium perfringens at Keehi Lagoon.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone. Our local politicians have been busy dipping their beaks at the public’s expense for decades. Over-built and over-constructed Oahu is a ticking time-bomb. Our natural resources have been stressed to the max, but local politicians continue to dip their beaks in land permitting deals, and ordinance variances that fly in the face of sanity. Their greed knows no bounds, but we continue to allow it to happen. We deserve what we get. How on earth did we allow a rail system when our sewers are so inadequate, the EPA has been fining us for ever. We dump more sewage into our near shore water than you can shake a stick at, and despite what Mufi told everyone when he dumped millions of gallons of raw sewage into the AlaWai, a little sun and a few tide changes don’t do squat.
Paddlers gonna let some boogie bugs scare them from competing in the canoe race championship? Look at the Olympic sailors and rowers heading to the stinkiest and most polluted bay in the world. Show everybody your hairy chests and go out there and paddle like your pride is at stake.
