The man who died in a crash while driving his car the wrong way on H-2 freeway did not have alcohol or drugs in his system, according to a preliminary drug screening by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office.
The 58-year-old Wahiawa man’s name was not released, pending further confirmation, but Hawaii News Now identified him as Tim Leyes, a security guard for Securitas.
An autopsy found Leyes bled to death from severe chest injuries sustained in the crash, the office said.
Further toxicology tests on the mainland could take six to eight weeks, office added.
Police were trying to find out how Leyes ended up going northbound on the southbound lanes of H-2 freeway near Ka Uka Boulevard early Monday morning.
He crashed into an SUV driven by a 47-year-old woman who went to the hospital in critical condition. Another woman, 44, who swerved to avoid the vehicles and slammed into the center median when to the hospital in good condition.
