LAS VEGAS » Passengers can now send email and watch YouTube videos on their laptops while riding some public buses in Las Vegas.

That’s because the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is in the middle of a 90-day pilot program to put free Wi-Fi Internet on their vehicles.

The service was rolled out in late October on 12 buses serving the Centennial Express route. RTC General Manager Tina Quigley says the program is an effort to make public transit more attractive to commuters.

RTC spokeswoman Angela Castro tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal the route was selected in part because it’s used by Millennials commuting to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Castro says the program costs about $35,000 to implement, and about 200 riders are logging in every day.
