Last summer was Earth’s hottest on record, at 1.53 degrees above the highest global average temperature (74.5) since record keeping began in 1880, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It was even hotter in Hawaii, where Honolulu reached 90 degrees on 44 days in 2015 through Sept. 5, the sixth most on record; Kahului had 52 days of 90-degree weather during the same period.
