Maui's Kurt Suzuki will play in his first All Star game at Target Field in Minnesota on July 15.

Suzuki was among two hometown Twins players named to the American League All Star roster Sunday.

The Wailuku native and Baldwin High School graduate is in his eighth major league season as a catcher.

I don't know how to describe it," Suzuki said in a story on the Twins official website on MLB.com. "It's kind of surreal right now. I'm just trying to soak it all in. I'm just trying to have a good time with it and try to enjoy myself. It's going to be cool. It's my first one so I don't know what it'll be like, but I'm assuming it'll be pretty fun with the home crowd behind you. This is my home team so this is exciting."

The other Minnesota player selected was closer Glen Perkins.

"I have a knack for bringing catchers," Perkins said with a laugh in the MLB.com story. "I'm excited for him. He's had a heck of a year. He's been our best player. He's more than deserving. I'm excited for him, and hopefully I'll get the chance to throw the ball to him."

Living the dream. The nicest thing is, he knows it. He doesn't think that he is better or more deserving that everyone else, and is simply enjoying the ride. As long as he keeps that boy from the outer islands view of everything (putting things in the right order and keeping perspective) he will continue to shine. Congratulations!

Slight layout error: "Pitchers" should be moved out of the "Reserves" category. Unless SA thinks Max Scherzer, Felix Hernandez, Zach Greinke, and Clay Kershaw are mere reserves. Good going, Suzuki!

Congratulations Kurt, this is a fine accomplishment. Shane had to be voted in, u made it on merit, not that Shane's all-star game appearance was any less impressive.

Everybody is voted in. Kurt unfortunately did not garner enough votes from the public, even though he deserved to be in there simply based on his performance this year. He was given the host city's exemption. So he did NOT make it on his own merit. But again, he deserved to be there, but the all star game is more a popularity contest than it is on performance.
