The 59-year-old victim of a stabbing in Kalihi told police that his attacker repeatedly said that he wanted to kill him as he continued to stab him, according to court documents.

Arnold Diederichs, 43, is charged with second-degree attempted murder after he allegedly attacked Antonio Lapada with a knife Tuesday at a Kalihi Street home where the two lived. Diederichs is being held at Oahu Community Correctional Center unable to post bail of $100,000. He has been charged with first-degree burglary,

A preliminary hearing is scheduled in District Court on Oct. 27.

Lapada, in a police affidavit, said he was sleeping in his bedroom when Diederichs woke him, just before 10 p.m.

Lapada said that Diederichs held a 4-inch knife in his right hand and told him: “I like kill you,” according to the police affidavit.

Lapada said he tried to block the knife with both of his hands, but failed and suffered a small cut to his right shoulder.

Diederichs then tried to stab Lapada a second time again saying: “I’m going to kill you,” the police statement said.

Lapada said he able to take the knife away from his roommate, but suffered a cut to his left thumb when the knife’s handle broke off.

The suspect then fled to his bedroom, but returned carrying an eight-inch knife.

Diederichs told a police officer, who was interviewing Lapada: “I need to finish the job. I got to kill him, He slept with my soul mate,”  the documents said.
