Prosecutors charged a 29-year-old homeless man for the alleged sex assault of a 21-year-old woman and threats against family members  who tried to help her.

MJ Marew, who gave no local address, is charged with 2nd degree sex assault, 1st degree terroristic threatening and 1st degree burglary. His bail was set at $25,000.

Police arrested him Thursday afternoon near Kamamalu Neighborhood Park in the Downtown/Punchbowl area for the incident near the Kakaako homeless camp.

Police said the woman, who lives in the homeless camp, reported being sexually assaulted at about 5 a.m. Sunday.

Two of the victim’s family members, a 37-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman who confronted the man, were allegedly threatened by the suspect with a dangerous instrument.
