‘Bows fall to LBSU before sellout crowd

Hawaii drew its first tickets-issued sellout for basketball at the Stan Sheriff Center since 2004, but the enthusiasm of the turnstile crowd of 9,078 wasn’t enough to spur the Rainbow Warriors to their ninth win in a row Saturday.
Nick Faust scored 28 points and LBSU outrebounded Hawaii by 19 on the way to a 78-64 win.
Mike Thomas led UH with 20 points. Quincy Smith had 13 and Roderick Bobbitt scored 12.
UH fell to 16-3 and 5-1 in the Big West. The 49ers improved to 11-12 and 5-3. It was Hawaii’s first home loss since falling 84-81 to No. 3 Oklahoma on Dec. 23.
Long Beach State never trailed after a 12-point run early in the first half, and the 49ers scored 22 points off of 14 offensive rebounds. The 49ers won the rebound battle 47-28.
UH battled back late in the first half to close to 34-31 at the break, despite making just nine of 20 free throws. The Rainbows made 20 of 34 from the line for the game.
Long Beach State expanded its lead to 60-49 midway through the second half, but Hawaii stayed within striking distance and trailed 66-63 with 3:36 left.
But the 49ers then iced it with a 12-point run.

That was a bummer. A full house and we could have take first place out right. Sad sad sad
Sorry to add that UH could not block out on the defensive boards to save their lives. LB must have had 10+ offensive rebounds. It was dismal to watch.

there was also something strange about the ref’s, so many
ghost calls against Hawaii.
Zone out UH, crash the board, pressure the guards. Same thing everyone is doing and will keep doing until Ganot figures it out. And this team has a losing record on top of everything. So much for breaking into the top 25.
Nothing to figure out. Lack of inside game since our center took himself out of the game by committing silly fouls.
The Bows paid for poor rebounding and free throw shooting. They couldn’t get their fast break or inside game going. But as the saying goes, “If it didn’t kill you, it should make you stronger!” It’s early enough in Conference play that the Bows should be able to re-coup. The Bows need to run alternate offensive & defensive schemes to match the teams they play. LBS scouted UH well, and matched the “Box-and-1” pretty well. Gotta do something else! Time to show some character. Go Bows!
