Hawaii’s Hannah Zalopany put a kill past Nebraska’s Mikaela Foecke during a fifth-place sand volleyball game against Nebraska’s Foecke and Sydney Townsend on March 20 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletic Complex in Honolulu. Homayun and Zalopany won 21-10, 21-12.

A perfect week in Florida, including an upset of previously unbeaten Florida State, had the Hawaii beach volleyball team move up a spot to No. 4 in today’s AVCA Collegiate Beach Top 10.

The Rainbow Wahine (9-5) went 5-0 during their spring break trip to DeLand, Fla., and left as the only undefeated team at the Stetson Beach Invitational when going 4-0 in the six-team non-round robin format. Hawaii, which beat FSU 4-1 on Saturday, traded places with UCLA (9-4) in the poll.

Pepperdine (11-0) remained at No. 1 while defending national champion USC (11-2) traded places with FSU (14-1). The Women of Troy moved to No. 2 and the Seminoles to No. 3.

Also today, the Hawaii men’s volleyball team remained at No. 8 in the AVCA Division I-II Top 15. The Rainbow Warriors (14-9, 9-4 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) hit a phenomenal .475 Saturday night when outlasting UC Irvine in five sets en route to clinching a quarterfinal berth in the conference postseason tournament.

UCLA and Ohio State traded places in the poll, the Bruins (21-3, 15-3 MPSF) moving to No. 1 one point ahead of the Buckeyes (20-3, 11-1 MIVA).

GO BOWS! Duplicate the success of the basketball teams and get into the NCAAs (but don’t expect to receive a State Capital honorarium from the governor; he expects more…shades of Alabama, what have we come to???)
