Kodi Medeiros shook hands with Commissioner Bud Selig after being drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Kodi Medeiros, the 12th overall pick in last week’s MLB draft, is expected to sign a contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday.

Medeiros’ father, Robert, said Monday from Las Vegas that the Brewers are planning to fly into town on Tuesday for the contract signing. They will then head to Milwaukee on Thursday for a press conference and attend Friday’s home game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Medeiros’ signing bonus is expected to be in the $2 million range, but fall short of the record for a player from Hawaii. Punahou alumnus Justin Wayne received a signing bonus of $2,950,000 from the Montreal Expos as the fifth overall pick in the 2000 MLB draft.

The slot value for the 12th overall pick in this year’s draft is listed as $2,805,700.

Fellow Big Island product Kolten Wong received a $1.3 million signing bonus in 2011 as the No. 22 overall pick of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Medeiros, who graduated from Waiakea, is the highest draft pick ever selected straight out of a Hawaii high school. He’s the seventh first-round pick from Hawaii total, joining Wayne, Wong, David Masters, Mike Fetters, Bronson Sardinha and Jerome Williams.
