Man allegedly kicks police officer following foot chase

A 31-year-old man with no local address led police on a foot chase through a Waipahu neighborhood yesterday afternoon before being cornered by officers in a home on Paia St., police said.

The man did not go quietly and kicked an officer before he was arrested, police said.

The pursuit happened at about 3:15 p.m. when Crime Reduction Unit officers on a routine check of a “high crime area” noticed an illegally parked vehicle. Two men approached the vehicle, and when officers approached them, one of the men fled, police said.

The suspect ran through yards and ended up in the home of a 71-year-old man. Officers found him hiding in a bedroom where he apparently tried, unsuccessfully, to getaway by kicking an officer.

Police arrested the man for assault on a law enforcement officer, unauthorized entry into a home and trespassing.
