A $300,000 federal grant is being awarded to help homeless women veterans and homeless veterans with families in Hawaii.

U.S. Sens. Daniel Akaka and Daniel Inouye announced the grant award to Mental Health America of Hawaii.

The money comes from a U.S. Department of Labor grant program dedicated to employment, training and reintegration of homeless veterans, the senators said Wednesday.

The grant program provides job training, counseling and placement services to help veterans re-enter the work force.
