A man in his mid-50s fell hiking up the railroad tracks to the top of Koko Crater this morning and had to be airlifted to safety.

A fire helicopter picked him up and took him to paramedics at Koko Head Regional Park, Capt. Terry Seelig, fire department spokesman said.

The accident occurred at 8:28 a.m. about half way up the crater side. The man fell about eight feet, Seelig said. There was no immediate report on the extent of the hiker’s injuries.
