The monthly test of the statewide outdoor siren warning system and the audio broadcast of the Emergency Alert System is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. today, state Civil Defense officials said.

The siren test is a steady 45-second tone on all sirens.

Tests of the sirens and the EAS are conducted simultaneously, normally on the first working day of the month, in cooperation with Hawaii’s broadcasting industry, according to Civil Defense officials.

They remind residents that disaster preparedness information can be found in the front of the white pages of telephone directories in all counties.

The steady tone is used to alert the public to an emergency that threatens life and property, officials said.
