City to citizens: come clean
The city Department of Environmental Services invites volunteers to help with community cleanups this weekend. Volunteers for the Ewa Beach cleanup should report at 8 a.m. today at Campbell High School’s parking lot or the Ewa Beach drainage channel. Volunteers for the Kailua cleanup should report at 8 a.m. tomorrow at Huakailani School, 146 Hekili St. Dress to get dirty and bring sunscreen and water.
Film to close Nimitz lanes
Crews filming the movie "Battleship" will close the Koko Head-bound right and left lanes of Nimitz Highway between Valkenburgh and Elliott streets next week, state transportation officials said.
The lanes will be closed from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The center lane will remain open, however.
State alleges Ponzi scheme
State acting Commissioner of Securities Henry Tanji has issued a cease and desist order against a businessman accused of running a Ponzi scheme.

Tanji said yesterday that possibly 63 investors from Hawaii and the mainland gave more than $7 million to Louis Dean Parrish after being promised weekly returns of 2 percent to 7 percent.
The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs alleges Parrish invested only a small portion of the money in various projects.
The state is seeking a civil penalty of $1 million.

Guns, dogs used to hunt pigs, goats
The state is letting hunters use guns and dogs to go after feral goats and pigs in the Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park on Kauai this weekend.
The state is trying to control populations of invasive animals that damage the native forest and cause erosion.
Hunters with valid permits are due to fly to remote valleys for the hunting, which is being allowed through tomorrow.
The area is usually open only to archery hunting because the Kalalau Trail is so popular with hikers.
But the park is temporarily closed for two months while the state conducts park repairs, giving hunters an opportunity to use guns and dogs.
Last month hunters killed nine pigs and 18 goats in the area during one weekend.
