Big Island-based biotech firm Cyanotech Corp. has named a former executive from a leading nutritional supplement company as it’s new president and chief executive officer.

Brent Bailey, the fourth executive to lead Cynaotech in the last 2 1/2 years, replaces David Rosenthal, who had served as interim president and CEO since February.

“We are pleased that Brent has chosen to join Cyanotech. He brings a wealth of experience in managing and marketing products both in the specialized world of neutraceuticals and in mainstream consumer product markets,” Rosenthal said in a news release.

Bailey was chief operating officer of Pharmavite LLC and led the team that drove the Nature Made brand to the No. 1 position in the nutritional supplement market, according to the news release.

Cyanotech’s shares were up 4 cents at $2.12 in late trading on the Nasdaq stock market.
