Pearl City High hacker thwarted
A computer hacker tried to shut down classes at Pearl City High School yesterday, but the phony notice on the school’s website had no effect, school officials said.
A hacker posted a false notice on the school’s website Monday night that classes would be canceled yesterday because of a water main break.
Pearl City High Vice Principal Joe Halfmann said once the hack was discovered, school officials activated a phone tree and notified news organizations that school would go on as scheduled.
"We did our best to communicate with faculty and staff to correct the erroneous information," Halfmann said.
Halfmann said the website was returned to normal just before school began at 8 a.m.
