Hit-run victim’s family offers $1,000
The family of a young man killed in a hit-and-run pedestrian incident in Honolulu is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver.
Michael Murphy, 22, was fatally struck by a vehicle while he was crossing South King Street near Victoria Street and the Neal Blaisdell Concert Hall at about 11:05 p.m. Nov. 21.
"I don’t want this forgotten," his mother, Dona Murphy, said yesterday. "I want this resolved. … We need to hold this person responsible."
She said because of help from family and friends, she and her husband, Joe, have been able to offer the reward.
Dona Murphy, who lives in Livermore, Calif., said she has not had any additional information from authorities since being notified about her son’s death.
"We’re quite disappointed with the lack of communication," she said.

Murphy had moved to Hawaii about a year ago and was homeless most of the time.
Police traffic investigator E. Kam said police are still investigating the incident.
He said the vehicle likely was damaged in the crash.
"For this particular vehicle, we don’t have any leads right now," Kam said.
