Talk will cover Catholic, Buddhist ways

Bishop Larry Silva and Bishop Thomas Okano will take part in a discussion on "Contemplation and Practice for Peace and Justice: Buddhist and Catholic Traditions" at 2 p.m. next Saturday in downtown Honolulu.

Sponsored by the Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai Interfaith Program at Chaminade University, the talk will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Kamiano Center, next to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace on Bishop Street.

RSVP by Monday at 735-4827 or e-mail psponsel@chaminade.edu.

The discussion will be preceded by a tour of the Honpa Hongwanji Temple from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. at 1727 Pali Highway, hosted by Okano; and a tour of Our Lady of Peace, from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. at the corner of Beretania and Bishop streets, hosted by Silva.

Free parking is available at Century Square garage, 1188 Bishop St., for those attending the cathedral tour and the bishops’ discussion. The cathedral is in front of the lobby exit from the parking elevator.

Parking for the temple tour at Honpa Hongwanji is also free. It takes 15 to 20 minutes to walk from the temple to the cathedral.
