Big Island man is sought in stabbing
Big Island police said they are searching for a 50-year-old Mountain View man wanted for allegedly stabbing a 46-year-old Volcano man in Kurtistown on Friday.
At about 1:20 p.m. Friday, police and fire rescue personnel responded to a report of an assault victim at Kurtistown Park off of Highway 11. The victim was stabbed in his chest, police said.
He was transported to the Hilo Medical Center by medics and was initially listed in serious condition, police said. He was upgraded to stable condition following surgery.
Police are asking for help in locating Richard Broyles for the investigation, classified as an attempted murder.
Broyles is described as Caucasian, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 275 pounds. He is also known as “Rick.”
He was last seen leaving the scene driving a light-colored 1999 Plymouth Voyager van with the license plate KAC-934 and heading toward Volcano on Highway 11.
Police are warning the public against approaching Broyles, who is considered dangerous.
Individuals with information on Broyles’ whereabouts are asked to contact Detective Wendell Carter at 961-2378 or the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.

Stolen automobile is parked next door
A 20-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly stole a car and tried to park it in a neighboring driveway.
The victim, a 24-year-old Waikele woman, told police she awoke around 9:30 a.m. Sunday to find her residence had been entered and her car taken without permission.
As she was awaiting for police to arrive, she saw her car being parked in a neighbor’s driveway. Police arrested the driver, who now faces charges of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and first-degree burglary.
