College students vie for Kahala Mall fashion title
Kahala Mall is hosting a competition for fashion students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Honolulu Community College for the title of “Stylist of Kahala Mall 2011,” at noon Saturday at the mall’s Center Court.
The stylists will transform models from “drab to fab.” Each school will be represented by two teams and will have three models each to style in the latest spring fashions from stores on site. Each set of models will consist of a local celebrity, a professional model and a mom from momsinhawaii.com to ensure the looks fit a range of personalities and lifestyles.
Teams will be judged on creativity, cohesiveness and overall execution, with prizes to include the chance to style future mall events and store window displays.
Displays at Ward feature eco-chic
In recognition of Earth Month, Ward Centre is home to a “Trash Chic” Display and Competition through April 27.
University of Hawaii-Manoa Apparel Product Design & Merchandising Program students dressed mannequins with garments and accessories crafted entirely from recyclables, such as trash bags, soda cans and newspapers. Shoppers are invited to view the eco-chic mannequins at the Borders end of the center and vote for their favorite. Voters will be entered to win a $100 Ward Centers dining certificate.
