Body ID’d as that of missing runner

The body of a man found on a hill Saturday in Mokuleia has been identified as a trail runner who disappeared on May 14 during a run with a group in the Peacock Flats area.

Are Hjorungnes, 40, died of multiple blunt force injuries from an accidental fall, the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office determined.

Volunteer searchers found Hjorungnes’ body about 12:30 p.m. Saturday on the hill behind Dillingham Airfield. Some suspected he had missed a turn in a trail and fell while trying to go down the hillside.
