New Honolulu Police Department deputy chiefs Marie McCauley and Dave Kajihiro were sworn in this morning.

The Honolulu Police Department promoted two new deputy chiefs today, including the first woman in the department’s second-highest position.

Marie McCauley, a 30-year veteran who had been major of the Honolulu patrol district, was sworn in this morning by Circuit Judge Ed Kubo.

Police Chief Louis Kealoha assigned her to lead HPD’s field operations.

Also sworn in was Dave Kajihiro, a 27-year veteran who had been in charge of regional patrol. Kajihiro will be tasked with heading administrative operations.

Two other deputy chiefs ended their tenures Tuesday.

Delbert Tatsuyama retired while Randy Macadandang chose to return to the rank of an assistant chief.
