Fire damages building in downtown Hilo

Fire broke out at the Camario Building in downtown Hilo at about 10:44 p.m. Thursday night.

Firefighters confined the blaze to a small section of the west side of the building on Haili St. and Kamehameha Avenue next to the Palace Theatre. It had spread and the second floor and part of the roof.

The fire was under control at 10:53 p.m. Damage was estimated at $20,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Correction: The fire broke out in the Camario Building next to the Palace Theatre.  An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the fire was at the Palace Theatre.
