Kona man charged in alleged theft and pellet gun shooting
Big Island police have charged a 25-year-old Kailua-Kona man in connection with a pellet-gun shooting Friday in the parking lot of a KonaKonabusiness on Kuakini Highway.
Andrew M. Wanat was charged Monday evening with first-degree attempted robbery and second-degree assault. His bail was set at $12,000.
Police said Wanat stole the wallet of a 54-year-old Kailua-Kona man and shot the man in the shoulder with a gas-powered pellet gun when the victim chased him.
The victim was treated at Kona Community Hospital for a puncture wound caused by a pellet, and released.
Police arrested Wanat Sunday in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Kuakini Highway for suspicion of attempted robbery and assault. He was being held at the Kona police cellblock.
