Maui’s last commercial used book store closes
LAHAINA >> Maui’s last remaining commercial used book store has closed after 15 years.
The Maui News reported Friday the Old Lahaina Book Emporium recently closed as more people turn to electronic books.
Owner JoAnn Carroll tells the newspaper people can no longer afford to buy even used books and that customers say they download reading material online.
She says her store was turning into a lending library.
The store’s stock has been purchased by a Kula couple who say the books will eventually end up in public libraries.
