Senator Fong’s honey festival is bee’s knees
It’s all about local honey at Senator Fong’s Plantation Sunday when the Second Annual Hawaiian Honey and Arts Festival brings together honey experts and vendors for a day of family fun.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., scientists from the Hawaii Honeybee Project at the University of Hawaii-Manoa join Moloka‘i Mele, Tropical Apiary from Maui and the Hawaiian Honey Bee Coop on Oahu to share information.
Families can enjoy makahiki games, garden tours, entertainment and craft and food booths at the free event. There will also be entertainment.

Gourmet grinds to be served at Crossroads
Try the healthy fare of Kathy Maddux and Alyssa Moreau, macrobiotic and vegetarian chefs, respectively, at a gourmet dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 7 at Church of the Crossroads.
The menu includes barley soup with fresh corn and shiitake mushroom, caramelized onion upside-down cornbread, black-eyed peas with kale and arame, summer pressed salad with ume vinegar-herb dressing, blueberry kanten with lemon cream and kukicha tea.

Wine festival to benefit Lupus Hawaii
Enjoy fine wine and gourmet food at the Honolulu Wine Festival 2011, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Hawaii Prince Hotel.
A fundraiser for Lupus Hawaii, the event features cuisine from top restaurants such as Alan Wong’s, d.k Steakhouse, Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas, Pacific Club, Stage, VINO Italian Tapas & Wine Bar, and spirits from R. Field Wine Co.
A premium tasting, “Do Californian wines get better with age?,” will be held at 4 p.m. The blind tasting will feature 12 chardonnays produced in 2004.
Wine experts Chuck Furuya of DK Restaurants, Mark Shishido of Alan Wong restaurants and Kevin Toyama of Halekulani Hotel will share their expertise.
Tickets to the festival are $125. The tasting is $125. A special tasting at 5:30 is $250, with a table of 10 for $2,500.
