The state Department of Education has accepted a proposal for the Schuler Division of developer D.R. Horton to provide 94 acres for five public schools in its planned Ho‘opili community slated for 11,750 homes.
The state Land Use Commission plans to hold hearings to decide whether 1,554 acres of farmland on the Ewa Plain owned by Schuler is suitable for urban development.
Schuler proposes donating land for three elementary schools, one middle and one high school to mitigate new demand on area schools if its project is approved. The state still would need to build the schools.
