Motorcyclist killed in collision ran red light
Maui police identified Friday a motorcyclist killed Monday in Kahului as 32-year-old Saul W. Saunders.
Saunders was riding a motorcycle north on Mokulele Highway at about 10:55 p.m. when he collided with an industrial truck crossing the highway while heading east on Cane Haul Road. Police said the motorcyclist had the red stop signal. The motorcycle caught on fire after the impact.
This was the 15th traffic-related fatality and the sixth motorcycle fatality this year in Maui County.
Suspect held in sex assault, kidnapping
A 31-year-old Ewa Beach man appeared in Honolulu District Court on Thursday morning on charges that he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman last month.
Anthony C. Kaikaka of Hoomalie Street is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. Police said he unlawfully entered the 28-year-old woman’s Waipahu home at about 6:45 a.m. Sept. 4, sexually assaulted her, held her against her will and damaged her car.
He was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with kidnapping, two counts of first-degree sexual assault, first-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal property damage.
Boy surrenders, is released, in abuse case
Police are investigating a case of abuse and terroristic threatening in which a 16-year-old Kahuku boy allegedly threatened his uncle during an argument at their home in August.
Police said the suspect was arguing with his uncle on Aug. 8 when the youth grabbed a "dangerous instrument" and reportedly threatened his uncle, who backed off and went to his room. The youth surrendered to police Wednesday and could face charges of first-degree terroristic threatening and abuse of a family member. He was released pending investigation.
