High surf advisory covers east shores of most islands
A high surf advisory continues for east-facing shores of all islands except Lanai and Niihau.
The National Weather Service said is expected to produce waves with heights of 6 to 8 feet on east shores. The high surf advisory for east shores remains in effect until 6 p.m. tonight.
A late-season south swell is also expected. Waves on the south shore could rise to 3 to 5 feet today.
The weather service cautions that the high surf could be dangerous for inexperienced swimmers and surfers and beachgoers. The surf could produce rip currents and beach erosion.
Surf on Oahu’s north shore is expected to remain at 4 to 6 feet today. West shores should see 1 to 3 foot waves.
Forecasters say another swell, this one from the northwest, will arrive Sunday and could produce 15-foot waves on the north shore this weekend into next week.
