An autopsy on Monday found that a 45-year-old man drowned while diving at night in waters off Kahana Bay Friday night.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner identified the man as Samuel Kahaloa, of Honolulu, and classified the death as accidental.

The man was skin diving with his son when they got caught in a current at about 10 p.m. Friday, a fire department spokesman said.

The son was able to make it to shore, but the current swept his father out to sea.

A Honolulu Fire Department helicopter dropped rescue personnel into the water who were able to retrieve the man in about 10 to 15 feet of water, 200 to 300 yards offshore.
