Hyundai golf tournament completes field
The field for the 2012 Hyundai Tournament of Champions has been finalized.
The world’s top five golfers will not participate either by choice or because they did not qualify, but the event will feature the next generation of golf standouts.
The event, which includes 28 champions from the 34 PGA Tour events from 2011, will take place Jan. 6-9 on The Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort.
Heading the field will be FedExCup champion Bill Haas, PGA Tour Rookie of the Year and PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley and Webb Simpson and Nick Watney, both multiple winners in 2011.
Of the players in the field, 13 won events in 2011 while they were still in their 20s, accounting for 15 victories.
Five of the record six rookies who accounted for seven tour victories will tee it up at the tournament. Twelve of 14 first-time winners on the tour in 2011 are in the field.
World No. 6 Steve Stricker is the highest-ranked golfer in the field. Missing will be world Nos. 1-5 Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer and Adam Scott.
