The Hawaii football team’s 2012 recruiting class continues to grow with the addition of a junior college defensive end.
Quenton Brown of Eastern Arizona College signed a letter of intent to become the 22nd member of head coach Norm Chow’s first UH recruiting class. The class includes grayshirts and returner/receiver Scott Harding, who paid his own way during the fall semester.
Brown is 6 feet 3 and 230 pounds.
As a senior at Tucker High in Liburn, Ga., Brown was recruited by Miami, Mississippi, Michigan State, West Virginia and Marshall. He chose Central Florida, where he redshirted in 2010. After that season, he transferred to Eastern Arizona.
“He realizes he’s fortunate to have a second chance,” Chow said. “What we like about him is he gives us the dimension on the edge to rush the quarterback.”
Brown, who visited Hawaii this past weekend, will join the Warriors as a third-year sophomore this summer.
“Not only are you getting a little older guy, but you’re getting a guy who has three years to play,” Chow said.
Chow said assistant coaches Tony Tuioti and Chris Demarest were the point recruiters.
Brown’s father and step-mother live in Ewa.
Marrell Jackson, a defensive back from Miramar High in Miami, reportedly has made an oral commitment to UH. He is expected to fax a copy of his letter of intent this week.
