The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified a 77-year-old man who died Friday after an unlicensed driver hit him last month as Wallace Nakama of Ewa.

Nakama died of complications from head injuries he sustained in the Jan. 16 crash in Ewa Beach, the office said.

Police said a car was turning left from Ewa Beach Road onto Fort Weaver when the driver hit Nakama, who was walking in a marked crosswalk. Nakama was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition.

Police arrested the driver, a 25-year-old Ewa Beach woman, at the scene for investigation of negligent injury and driving without a license.

Nakama was the eighth person to die in a traffic incident this year on Oahu.
