SHAQUILLE STOKES
Freshman point guard
Four is the only number Stokes has ever known. The timing worked out with UH’s previous 4, Bill Amis, graduated and off to the pro ranks in Europe.
“First number I ever got. Three years old, 3 to 4. My dad just gave me No. 4. … (Used it for) everything.”

TREVOR WISEMAN
Sophomore forward
“I chose it because my uncle (Greg Cassel); he passed away a couple years ago. His birthday was Dec. 31, so that’s why I chose that. I had 20 last year, but I chose to honor him.”

PII MINNS
Sophomore guard
“There’s so many reasons. I watched AC Carter play when I was little. He was good, but I also read Jordan’s book this summer. … There’s a lot with that number. I just like it. My number’s always been 24 (in high school), and I just went down one.”

HAUNS BRERETON
Junior forward
“Actually, the number picked me. In middle school, I tried out for the team. Then I made it, but I was the worst player so it was the last number picked. And this jersey was just thrown at me. It was stained and nasty, nobody wanted it. I was the last player on the bench. Eventually after three games I earned my way to a starting position. So I’ve always worn it to remember where I was.”

JOSTON THOMAS
Junior forward
Thomas used to have an affinity for No. 11, but that changed just before he first got to UH in the summer of 2010.
“The summer of the time I was coming here, that July 4, my little godbrother (Deion Houston) got hit by a train and died on his birthday. He wore No. 5. So I wear it to honor him.”

DAVIS ROZITIS
Sophomore center
“I usually pick 15, but Vander (Joaquim) already had it. I just picked the next European number that was there. If I could, I’d probably pick 6 or 9. But 13, some people think it’s unlucky, but I just think it’s a number.”
