For the second night in a row, Hawaii waited for Wagner to make the first move.
Then the Rainbows countered with theirs.
Collin Bennett went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs and Brent Harrison tossed the final 3 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win in Hawaii’s 5-2 victory over the Seahawks on Friday night in front of a Les Murakami Stadium crowd of 1,825.

Wagner (0-2) took its first lead of the series on one of three errors by Hawaii (3-3) that allowed two runners to score in the top of the sixth.
As they did on Thursday, the Rainbows answered in the bottom of the frame, scoring three times on five hits off of reliever Connor Smith to take a 4-2 lead they wouldn’t give away.
"That’s baseball and no matter what team we’re playing, whether they’re ranked or not, they can come out any night and play just as good as we can," junior Pi‘ikea Kitamura said. "It’s good that we’re responding, but we want to come out tomorrow and jump on them early and not let them back in it."
Kitamura, who’s been hot at the plate to start the season, went 2-for-4, driving in an insurance run in the eighth for a three-run lead.
Hawaii coach Mike Trapasso, who called a team meeting before batting practice and challenged his team to come out more focused, credited Ryan Van Spronsen for keeping UH at bay early.
"It was a combination of not figuring out (Van Spronsen) and I thought we were a little tentative at the plate, maybe because I got on our guys," he said. "We had an approach of not making a mistake, but we went about it with better energy and I thought our demeanor was much better."
UH starter Jarrett Arakawa cruised through the first five innings, striking out seven consecutive batters at one point.
He couldn’t make it out of the sixth for the second straight start, however, as Wagner scored two runs on a walk, two hits and two UH errors.
Pinch hitter Jayson Keel drew a one-out walk and Eddie Brown drilled a ground-rule double to center to put two men in scoring position with two outs.
Tommy Higgins followed with a grounder that looked to be the third out of the inning, but the umpire ruled catcher’s interference on Garrett Champion, loading the bases.
Hayden Hunter followed with a ground ball to second that Stephen Ventimilia fielded while stumbling to the ground. He tried to make the throw to first, but the ball one-hopped past Conner George, allowing two men to score.
"We showed our immaturity with a couple of defensive mistakes, but those are things that we’ll correct with more games," Trapasso said.
Wagner gave it right back in the bottom of the inning, as Bennett again delivered an RBI single, driving in Breland Almadova, who bunted for a hit and stole second.
Bennett advanced to third after the ball got past left fielder Chris Smith and Zack Swasey’s grounder to short was hit softly enough to score Bennett for a 3-2 UH lead.
UH wasn’t done in the inning, stringing together three more two-out hits, including a single by Champion that drove in Kitamura and made it 4-2.
The Seahawks threatened with back-to-back singles to start the eighth off Harrison.
UH’s defense came up big, turning a key 3-6-1 double play. Harrison then struck out Higgins to leave a runner on third and preserve the 4-2 lead.
"The first guy gets a hit, then another guy gets a hit and it took me back to (the) Oregon (game) where I got bleeded to death," Harrison said. "I tried to stay composed and get a ground ball and got Pi‘i to throw me a ball at first."
UH will make a slight change to its rotation today, starting senior Jesse Moore for the first game of a doubleheader beginning at 3:05. Left-hander Scott Squier will go in the nightcap.
