Hawaii’s Kamilah Jackson was selected to the All-Western Athletic Conference women’s basketball second team, the league announced Monday.
Jackson, a sophomore forward, is the first UH player since Tanya Smith in 2007-08 to be tabbed for the second team.
For the second straight season, Jackson averaged a double-double in conference games, with 11.5 points and a league-high 10.6 rebounds.
Hawaii’s Breanna Arbuckle, a senior guard, was chosen to the All-WAC defensive team. She ranks third on the school’s all-time list with 144 blocked shots and eighth with 612 rebounds.
The Rainbow Wahine’s Alissa Campanero made the WAC’s all-freshman team. The point guard averaged 7.9 points and 2.9 assists, drained a team-high 22 3-pointers and led the Rainbow Wahine with a .909 free-throw percentage.
“We’re very, very proud of (Kamilah) in earning her second team, but I think Breanna Arbuckle has really worked on her game and to be recognized on the defensive team is a feather in her cap for her senior year,” Hawaii coach Dana Takahara-Dias said. ”She has really grown from the player that she was as a freshman. … She has the toughest defensive assignments.
“For Alissa Campanero … to have a freshman recognized for the second straight year (Jackson made the all-freshman team a year ago), that means we’re on the right track in our recruiting.”
The Rainbow Wahine play Louisiana Tech on Wednesday in the WAC tournament.
