Maui County officials plan to rebuild Hanawana Land Bridge beginning Tuesday after part of the road collapsed March 9 during heavy rain.

Gov. Neil Abercrombie has signed another disaster proclamation that expands his earlier proclamations to include Maui County.

The supplemental proclamation signed today comes after heavy rains, high winds and flooding caused extensive damage to roads and property throughout Hawaii.

Previously the governor had issued proclamations for Kauai and Oahu, including one on March 2 that authorized the state Department of Transportation to begin emergency repair work on Kuhio Highway near Kilauea town after the partial collapse of a 15-foot-diameter culvert running beneath the highway.

The governor says the latest supplemental proclamation will provide additional assistance and take steps to protect public health and safety.
