UH baseball game at Gonzaga postponed
Thursday’s baseball game between Hawaii and Gonzaga at Washington Trust Field in Spokane, Wash., was postponed due to weather.
The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Hawaii time.
It’s the second straight game Hawaii hasn’t played due to weather. Tuesday’s game against Portland was canceled because of rain.
The Rainbows (14-7) haven’t played since a 3-2 win over San Francisco last Sunday at Les Murakami Stadium. Today’s game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
UH men’s tennis beats New Mexico State
The University of Hawaii men’s team (2-0) remained undefeated in Western Athletic Conference play, topping New Mexico State, 4-3, on Thursday at the Spalding G. Walthen Tennis Center in Fresno, Calif.
Jonathan Brooklyn and WAC athlete of the week Dymtro Kovalyov won their singles matches and teamed up to win in doubles. Their victory, coupled with Danilo Casanova and David Schuster’s win, secured the doubles point for UH. Jared Spiker won his singles match for another UH point.
Academy of Art sweeps Chaminade
Academy of Art swept Chaminade 8-0 and 8-5 in a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader Wednesday at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Kimberly Dauer pitched a two-hit, six-inning shutout and Taylor Thurman went 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the opener. In the second game, Shannan Hokama and Rayna Strom-Okimoto each went 4-for-4 for Chaminade (6-10, 5-5). But the Urban Knights (11-20, 7-9) scored four unearned runs to win.
BYUH’s Washington earns hoops honor
Brigham Young University-Hawaii women’s basketball player Shayla Washington was named Daktronics All-America honorable mention. The junior from Phoenix led the PacWest in scoring this season with 18.8 points per game. She also averaged 8.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals.
UH men’s golf tied for 11th place
The University of Hawaii men’s golf team is tied for 11th place after Thursday’s rain-delayed first round of the Barona Collegiate Cup at Lakeside, Calif.
The Rainbows are at 10 over par, which is 33 strokes behind leader San Diego State. St. Mary’s Anders Engell (through 15), San Diego State’s J.J. Spaun (15) and Kent State’s Taylor Pendrith (14) lead at 9-under-par. TJ Kua is Hawaii’s top golfer at 1 over through 16 holes.
Fujikawa misses cut on eGolf Pro Tour
Moanalua alum Tadd Fujikawa missed the cut after shooting a 75 on Thursday in the second round of the eGolf Professional Tour’s Irish Creek Classic in North Carolina. Fujikawa finished at 4-over 147, which was six strokes below the cut line. Ireland’s Seamus Power is the leader at 12-under 132.
