Viloria bout against Romero pushed back
Brian Viloria’s upcoming world-title fight against Omar Nino Romero has been pushed back to May 12, manager Gary Gittelsohn confirmed Sunday.
Romero had to settle an issue with the Nevada State Athletic Commission regarding a pending fine from a failed drug test in 2006 following a majority draw against Viloria that was eventually ruled a no contest.
The fight, originally scheduled for Saturday, was first pushed back to April 21 before the May 12 date was settled on for pay-per-view purposes.
The 12-round bout will be for the WBO flyweight title Viloria won last July at the Blaisdell Arena against Julio Cesar Miranda.
He successfully defended it in December with an eight-round TKO of Giovani Segura.
His third fight against Romero will take place at the Ynares Sports Arena in Manila, Philippines, and will be available on PPV in Hawaii. Viloria lost the first bout with Romero.
