Though there has been a proposal on the table from the Hawaii Tourism Authority, a decision on a site for the 2013 Pro Bowl isn’t expected at this week’s NFL owners meetings.
Selection of a site for future Pro Bowls was not on the agenda at the Palm Beach, Fla., meetings scheduled to conclude today, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in an email.
There is "no timeline for a decision" McCarthy said.
Since 1980, the Pro Bowl has been held at Aloha Stadium every year but 2010. However, the current contract between the NFL and the HTA expired after the last game on Jan. 29.
No sites have been announced for 2013 and 2014 amid speculation that at least the ’13 game could end up in New Orleans, which is also hosting the Super Bowl. The 2010 game was piggybacked with the Super Bowl in Miami. The NFL has said it might use similar packaging in the future.
This year’s game drew 18,873 visitors to Hawaii and generated $25.3 million in visitor spending, according to an HTA study. The game attracted 12.5 million television viewers.
The HTA paid the NFL $4 million plus $152,500 in operating costs for this year’s game.
